Fellow Republicans:
News clips and upcoming event information:
GOPUSA ILLINOIS
– Many millions of Illinois voters support the immigration plank in the Illinois Republican Party platform, but sadly, if not tragically, Illinois RINO candidates, elected officials, and party leaders are throwing them under the bus. – Dave Diersen

– Biesada, Crenshaw, Fortner, Pulido, Ramey, and Zahm rouse picnic crowd in Election Drive – Dave Diersen

(DIERSEN: Rick Biesada, Cedra Crenshaw, Mike Fortner, Rosanna Pulido, Randy Ramey, Jon Zahm and others spoke at the TAPROOT Republicans of Illinois picnic Sunday afternoon, August 22, at Echo Point Park in Woodridge. Exhibitors included USA Stand Up Be Heard (www.politicalwindowstickers.com) and Conservative Magazine of Illinois (www.raisetherepublic.com). Attendees had outstanding opportunities to ask questions of the speakers. Attendees included Laurel Bowen, Wally Brown, Gary Bernstein, Bob Cherry, Carolyn Connell, Sharon DeBoth, Jim Economos, Bob Graham, Gwen Henry, Larry Hill, Bill Hogan, Rich Johns, Rick Jones, George Kocan, Scott Krause, Wayne Lela, Dr. Luedi, Kaaren Oldfield, Byrd Parmelee, Marilyn Rickert, Roger Sheeman, and Gary Vician. The picnic had been on the GOPUSA ILLINOIS upcoming events calendar list since May 20. Many attended the picnic notwithstanding the fact that a competing picnic in Bloomington prevented the statewide candidates from speaking or answering questions. TAPROOT holds its monthly breakfast meetings on the third Saturday of each month except for August and December. All Republicans are invited. TAPROOT’s 2010 Christmas Party will be at the Lisle/Naperville Hilton Sunday afternoon, December 5. All Republicans are invited. Bill Brady spoke at TAPROOT’s 2007 Christmas Party — I introduced him as Illinois’ next governor. Illinois Republicans “north of Route 80″ hope to see Bill Brady campaign heavily there. Sadly, in Milton Township Precinct 9, Brady received only 9 votes in the February 2 primary while Jim Ryan received 37, Kirk Dillard received 24, Adam Andrzejewski and Andy McKenna each received 21, Dan Proft received 13, and Bob Schillerstrom received 1. I did not endorse a candidate in that race and I am discouraged from endorsing candidates in primary races because Milton Township Republican Central Committee (MTRCC) RINOs, DuPage County Republican Central Committee (DCRCC) RINOs, and Illinois Republican Party (IRP) RINOs “pull out all the stops” to defeat any Republican candidate that I might endorse. Beyond tragically, for many decades, MTRCC RINOs, DCRCC RINOs, and IRP RINOs have shouted that “conservative candidates cannot win statewide offices.”)

(THE RECENTLY SCHEDULED COMPETING EVENT: At 17 years old, Cody Hendricks of Pekin won’t be able to vote in the November statewide elections. But the state chairman for Teenage Republics made sure that those who were old enough to cast their vote made their way to Sunday’s McLean County Victory Rally and Picnic at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. “I got about 15 of us from Tazewell County to make the trip over,” Hendricks said. “If this had been in Tazewell County, I would have brought much more than that. That’s what I do – get people to help the party.” About 350 people attended the event sponsored by McLean County Republican Women. The rally and picnic drew several local and statewide GOP candidates including state Rep. Dan Brady, R-Bloomington, Adam Kinzinger, a challenger for Democrat U.S. Rep. Debbie Halvorson’s seat, U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, Attorney General candidate Steve Kim, Secretary of State candidate Robert Enriquez, State Comptroller candidate Judy Baar-Topinka, State Treasurer candidate and current State Sen. Dan Rutherford, Lieutenant Governor candidate Jason Plummer and gubernatorial candidate and current State Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington. “It’s nice to be in your home base when you have been on the statewide trail,” Rutherford, of Chenoa, said. “We have tremendous support here and people wonder why we come back when we already have great support from the local Republican Party. But part of the reason is to say thank you and we also want to make sure we keep the spirit going and the energy high.” In full swing Bill Brady told the crowd of supporters that with two months and two weeks before the election, the campaign is in full swing. “I have some good news and some bad news,” he said. “First, we have been ahead in the polls – anywhere from five percentage points to 13. The bad news is that it’s only August.” Kinzinger said he was anxious to come to an event with an opportunity to campaign with Brady. “Bloomington -Normal is an outstanding place to get together, celebrate and be excited for two-and-a-half months from now when we take a lot of offices,” he said. Time for change. Baar-Topinka said the experience in McLean County shows the GOP party is picking up momentum. “It’s time for a change,” she said. “Bill is doing a good job. He’s a hometown guy. We have worked together, we have served together, we have run against each other and I know Bill well. He’s an outstanding guy and will make a great governor.”)
CHICAGO DAILY OBSERVER & ILLINOIS REVIEW
(THE REPORT: The 10th Annual RALC Picnic was held on Saturday, August 21st at the Lake County Museum Picnic Grove near Wauconda. 175 family members and friends attended the picnic for an afternoon of food, fun, political talk and prizes for kids. Opening remarks were made by Ray True, Chair of the Republican Assembly of Lake County, followed by Bob Cook, Head of the Republican Party in Lake County. The invocation was presented by Paul Mitchell begin_of_the_skype_highlighting end_of_the_skype_highlighting. He led the group in a prayer for Joe Walsh of Libertyville who was an active RALC member and who passed away this week. Joe was interred the morning of the RALC picnic. Attending Joe’s Memorial Service were many RALC members. Emily Bednar, daughter of RALC member, Bob Bednar, led the group in the singing of the National Anthem. Candidates present who spoke included the following:
Tom Morrison – Candidate for State Representative in the 54th House District.
Rep. Ed. Sullivan, Jr, of the 51st District.
Joe Walsh – Candidate for U.S. House in 8th District.
Suzi Schmidt – Candidate for State Senator in District 31. Running against Michael Bond.
Rep. JoAnn Osmond of the 61st District.
Senator Dan Duffy of District 26.
Wally Dunn – Candidate for the 4th Sub-Circuit of the 19ith Judicial Court.
Dan Sugrue – Candidate for IL Representative in the 59th District.
Judge Martha Mullen – Up for retention
Circuit Court Judge Fred Foreman.
Judge Diane Winter.
Carl Marcyan – Candidate for Lake County Board District #23.
Demetra Demonte – National Committee woman for Illinois.
Rosanna Pulido – an advocate against amnesty for illegal immigrants.Candidates who chose not to speak or who didn’t speak because they arrived early and left before they had a chance to speak or arrived too late to speak:
Robert Dold – Candidate for U.S. House, 10th District.
Lake County Sheriff, Mark Curran.
Lake County Regional Supervisor of Schools, Roycelee Wood.
Treasurer of Lake County, Robert Skidmore.
Gene Dawson – 8th Congressional District State Central Chairman.
Judge Jorge Ortiz – Running for Lake County 6th Sub-Circuit Court.More than one speaker emphasized that our state candidates are really doing well and that the prospects for winning back the House in November look good. It was Representative Ed Sullivan, Jr. who said that at the present time five incumbents are down in the polls, six races are statistically tied, and four candidates are up from five to nine points in the polls. Sullivan also said that five candidate field polls are scheduled for northern Lake County in the next few weeks. A fun time was had when those in attendance were asked to write a message with a magic marker on the white trailer used by Joe Welsh in his campaigning. I was pleased to have Rep. Ed Sullivan, Jr., Senator Dan Duffy, and Rep. JoAnn Osmond sign the Illinois Policy Institute “Illinois Honest Taxation Pledge.” In so doing they have pledged to oppose and vote against all tax hikes through the start of the 97th Session of the General Assembly in 2011.)
PEORIA JOURNAL STAR
(DIERSEN: The more planks in the Republican Party platform that you defend and advance, the more that Democrats, RINOs, and other anti-conservatives shout that you are in the “extreme right wing” of the party.)
(THE ARTICLE: U.S. Rep. Aaron Schock, R-Peoria, will be among the many Illinois Republican leaders at the Sears Centre in suburban Chicago on Sept. 18 for the first-ever Right Nation 2010 event. So far, he’s the only incumbent politician scheduled to be a participant at the event. Schock’s Nov. 2 opponents questioned his willingness to be a participant during an event highlighted by controversial personalities, namely media personality and author Glenn Beck and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart. “I just question the wisdom of aligning oneself with people like Andrew Breitbart who is willing to display his willingness to go to interesting lengths to misrepresent the truth,” said Deirdre “DK” Hirner, the Springfield Democrat opposing Schock. Green Party candidate Sheldon Schafer said Schock’s appearance was his aligning with the “extreme right wing segment” of the GOP. “This one-size-fits-all solution that smaller government is the way is right for some things and wrong for other things,” Schafer said. “That is the moderate voice we have. I don’t think Glenn Beck and others are quite as moderate.” Schock’s spokesman Dave Natonski did not respond to multiple requests for comment. Collin Corbett, spokesman with Right Nation 2010, said the event is “not about any one speaker or participant,” but represents a “coming together” of conservatives, Republicans, independents, tea partiers, etc. Schock isn’t the only Republican at the gathering, which aims to help to raise money for candidates while energizing supporters. Gubernatorial candidate Bill Brady of Bloomington and Jason Plummer, the GOP candidate for lieutenant governor, will be there. So, too, are candidates for U.S. Congressional seats throughout the state. The cost to attend the event ranges from $77 to $1,200. The most expensive seating includes a “Meet and Greet” with Beck and an autographed copy of his book. Proceeds will go toward candidates and their election efforts, Corbett said.)

– What is Bill Brady’s record on illegal immigration? – Rick Jones
www.chicagominutemanproject.com
(THE POSTING: On May 7, 2003 Senator Brady voted in favor of in-state tuition for illegal aliens (HB 60). On April 15, 2005 Senator Brady voted in favor of SB 1623 which mandates that all Illinois governmental agencies are required to accept the “Matricula Consular” as sufficient ID when an illegal alien is applying for public benefits. A Matricula Consular is an ID issued by a foreign government’s consulate office and they are notoriously fraudulent. The FBI has testified before Congress stating that the issuance of Matricula Consulars as ID’s presents a national security risk. On May 22, 2007 Senator Brady voted in favor of HB 1744. This bizarre legislation was an attempt to intimidate Illinois business owners from using the federal government’s E-Verify system. The E-Verify is designed to provide employers with an easy method to verify the legal status of potential employees. The Justice Department subsequently filed suit against the State of Illinois for its attempt to preempt the authority of the federal government to create immigration law. SOURCE: Illinois State Librarian What is Pat Quinn’s record on illegal immigration? Patrick Quinn doesn’t have much of a legislative record to draw from but his views on illegal immigration are plain for all to see. His campaign motto is “Everybody In.” Here in the offices of the Chicago Minuteman Project we are quick to point out that one doesn’t have to be a rocket scientist to figure out what constituency Mr. Quinn is going for. The truth is Mr. Quinn is a rabid pro-illegalist. When Arizona led the way forward with SB 1070 Quinn was quick with his denunciations and stated he would never support similar legislation in Illinois.)

(FROM THE ARTICLE: A leader of a planned Muslim community center near Manhattan’s Ground Zero compared opposition to the project to the persecution of Jews, in comments that could add to the controversy over the center’s proposed site. “We are deeply concerned, because this is like a metastasized antisemitism,” said Daisy Khan, who is spearheading the project with her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf. “It’s beyond Islamophobia. It’s hate of Muslims.” Ms. Khan, appearing on ABC News’s “This Week” on Sunday, vowed to push ahead with plans to build a 15-story complex two blocks from the site of the 9/11 terrorist attacks in lower Manhattan, saying there was “too much at stake.” The words could further inflame an already angry debate about the proposed location of the community center, which opponents denounce as a “victory mosque.” Rival protests for and against the $100 million center were planned in lower Manhattan on Sunday. Some politicians, including New York Governor David Paterson, have called for the project to be moved further away from the area where the World Trade Center collapsed. On Sunday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) also suggested the mosque’s location should be changed.)
