Encounters with TSA - Hyscience May 15, 2014, 5:00 am

TSA PRECHK - allows low-risk travelers to experience expedited, more efficient security screening... TSA PRECHK is one of several intelligence-driven, risk-based initiatives helping TSA move away from a one-size-fits-all model to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way. The use of risk-based initiatives will allow TSA to maintain its high security standards and improve the passenger experience... TSA will determine an individual's eligibility for TSA PRECHK on a flight-by-flight basis through an intelligence risk-based analysis of passenger data. Travelers are vetted for TSA PRECHK every time they fly.

Last weekend sister-in-law traveled to cityX. Her boarding pass had the "TSA PRECHK" and she was whisked thru security via a separate line. At security the following conversation took place -

SIL - Did I get to go thru the fast lane because of my age?
Agent - No, it is because we know you are a good guy.
SIL - Well, why didn't my 97 year old Mother get to go thru this lane?
Agent - YOU got thru because we KNOW you are a good guy.
She felt the emphasized "we know" was a little odd but couldn't quite put her finger on why.

Traveling that same weekend at security I decided to "test" the waters myself. Spouse and I had the PRECHK on our return flight boarding passes.

Me - Did I get to go thru the fast lane because of my age?
Agent - No.
Me - Then why did I get chosen for this special treatment.
Agent - It is just random.

Miscellaneous thoughts -
I did not like the "we KNOW' said to SIL. She thought it creepy, I thought it NSA intrusive.
If they "KNOW" then why didn't her 97 year old Mother get the special designation?
If they "KNOW" how did the Tsarnaev brothers fly back and forth from Russia without being stopped?
If it is just "random," what are the chances both my spouse and I would get the easy pass treatment?
If it is "random" just how secure is that?

From TSA News - More Pre-Check propaganda and more TSA fraud

And more TSA abuse. Yes, I have posted this video recently and will do so again.
