A 21st Century Manifesto For Freedom

Via Michelle Malkin: MANIFESTO: Together facing the new totalitarianism After having overcome fascism, Nazism, and Stalinism, the world now faces a new totalitarian global threat: Islamism. We, writers, journalists, intellectuals, call for resistance to religious totalitarianism and for the promotion of freedom, equal opportunity and secular values for all. The recent events, which occurred after the publication of drawings of Muhammed in European newspapers, have revealed the necessity of the struggle for these universal values. This struggle will not be won by arms, but in the ideological field. It is not a clash of civilisations nor an antagonism of West... ... more

dhimmitude

Learn this word... now By Diane West ...I've written about dhimmitude periodically, lo, these many years since Sept. 11, but it takes time to sink in. Dhimmitude is the coinage of a brilliant historian, Bat Ye'or, whose pioneering studies of the dhimmi, populations of Jews and Christians vanquished by Islamic jihad, have led her to conclude that a common culture has existed through the centuries among the varied dhimmi populations. From Egypt and Palestine to Iraq and Syria, from Morocco and Algeria to Spain, Sicily and Greece, from Armenia and the Balkans to the Caucasus: Wherever Islam conquered, surrendering dhimmi,... ... more

Danish central bank says overheating main risk to economy

That is what Reuters has reported today: COPENHAGEN, Feb 28 (Reuters) - Denmark's central bank said on Tuesday the outlook for the Danish economy was positive but warned that the main risk was overheating, which could derail the upswing. "The main challenge in the short term is to ensure that the strong growth is not derailed and leads to an overheating of the economy," the central bank said in its quarterly report. Even if it is early to estimate the impact of the boycott (and the counter-boycott, do not forget: Buy Danish!), I do not think its effect is going... ... more

Clash of Civilizations? No, Modernity Vs. Barbarism

Wafa Sultan's lucid argument in support of free speech, Western Civilization, Western science, and secular modernism destroys attempts by her interviewer to shift the blame from rioting Muslims to a Western scholar (Samuel Huntington and his thesis), and an Imam (who avoids debate by resorting to name-calling), all on MEMRI TV: Imam: Are you a heretic? Sultan: You can say whatever you like. I am a secular human being who does not believe in the supernatural... Imam: If you are a heretic, there is no point in rebuking you, since you have blasphemed against Islam, the Prophet, and the Koran...... ... more

Moratinos proposes Eurabians should pay for Muslims' education

In our first post we would like to thank Richard for inviting the cobloggers of Las Noticias de Eurabia / Eurabian News to participate in Freedom Zone. We would like to present to you an interesting source of information on Spain. You may find it useful, because most of the correspondents of the Mainstream Media in Spain just report on what they read in EL PAIS. The consequence is a strong bias -as a matter of fact very distorted image- of Spanish politics. There is now an alternative point of view. The main Spanish online journal, Libertad Digital, issues the... ... more

WMD's Moved To ? Part VII

Where is the MSM on this? Geez... In short, let us repeat: President Bush was right. We had to invade to disarm Saddam -- otherwise, he would have completely reconstituted his chemical, nuclear and bio-weapons programs when inspectors left. In a tape dating to April 1995, Saddam and several aides discuss the fact that U.N. inspectors had found traces of Iraq's biological weapons program. On the tape, Hussein Kamel, Saddam's son-in-law, is heard gloating about fooling the inspectors."We did not reveal all that we have," he says. "Not the type of weapons, not the volume of the materials we imported,... ... more

Escape Pods?

Sounds like a good idea... The idea emerged after Jonathan "Yoni" Shimshoni and a team of aspiring inventors in Israel watched a television documentary about victims trapped on the upper floors of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 (Never Forget).Shimshoni recalled seeing the towers ablaze and thinking, "This is nuts. This shouldn't have to happen."The team came up with a $1 million escape device with expandable cabins that could be lowered like lifeboats outside a high-rise in distress. A prototype tested in Tel Aviv drew praise from politicians, public safety experts and the landlord of a Manhattan skyscraper,... ... more

Origins Of The Cartoon Wars

The cartoon wars began with the most unlikely of protagonists. Danish author Kåre Bluitgen is a fairly liberal fellow, a multi-culturist who would seem to be one of Islam's best friends in Denmark. He lives in a very multi-cultural section of Copenhagen, and his children attend school with a rainbow of classmates. He is not an elitist, not a conservative. Some reports have asserted that politically he is a socialist. A biography that is not tainted by any political influence, left or right, is available on a website that promotes Danish authors. The motivation of this site is to expand... ... more

The Jyllands-Posten Cartoons

Our founding fathers struggled to create a government structure that would establish representative democracy, when the rest of the world was mired in monarchy, theocracy, and oligarchy. So here in the United States we often take the provincial viewpoint that we are sole spokespersons for democratic institutions, such as freedom of expression. But much of the world has caught up. Many Europeans are concerned that militant Islam is becoming too powerful a damper on freedom of expression in Europe. Their news outlets have been pussy-footing around the Islamic problem. In Italy, the court system attacked Oriana Fallaci for speaking out.... ... more
