Video Of Israeli Commando Mission At Baalbek - Many More Are To Come
The video was shot in the early morning hours of August 2 during an operation by IDF commandos in Baalbek, inside the Bekaa Valley. According to IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz, the commandos captured five Hezbollah terrorists and killed at least 10 others before completing the operation and safely returning to Israel. Via Vital Perspective, we have the video and a description:
The video starts off with an animation display of where the commandos were headed, followed by their departure from the helicopters. Then we shift to a camera that follows the commandos on their mission as they uncover a treasure trove of documents related to terrorist infrastructure and operations. Hezbollah terrorists fire on the Israeli forces, but they are able to return safely to the helicopters.
Lebanon, and especially the Bekaa Valley, is known as a terrorist haven:
Terrorist organizations operating in Lebanon include the radical Shiite militia Hezbollah, several Palestinian groups--Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command--as well as the Abu Nidal Organization, al-Jihad, Asbat al-Ansar, the Japanese Red Army, and some local radical Sunni Muslim organizations. Moreover, since the end of its devastating fifteen year civil war in 1990, Lebanon--a tiny, mountainous Arab state bordered by Israel, Syria, and the Mediterranean Sea--had, until 2005, been largely controlled by Syria, a state sponsor of terrorism.More on the raid at our previous post on the Baalbek raid.
Lebanon has refused U.S.demands to turn over Lebanese terrorists involved in the 1985 hijacking of TWA flight 847 and in the abduction, torture, and murder of U.S.hostages from 1984 to 1991. At the same time, the regime has only limited influence over Hezbollah and Palestinian militants. Moreover, it lacks control of some of Beirut and of the lawless, drug-ridden Bekaa Valley, as well as of many Palestinian refugee camps and the southern border region.
The Baalbek raid is only one of many before and many to come. The present conflict is only the begining of Iran's war with the West. As Walid Phares has said:
When Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, secretary general of Hezbollah held his press conference to declare his new victory over his enemy, Israel, he was triggering -probably without knowing- a new era in the history of Lebanon and the region.
