Kofi Assigns Fox To Watch Hen House
Until now, never in my wildest dreams would I have believed that anyone or any international agency could be so blind and behave so irresponsibly as to buy-in to Syria being trusted to prevent their own arms shipments from going into Lebanon. But then there's the :
DAMASCUS, Syria - U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Friday that Syria has pledged to step up border patrols and work with the Lebanese army to stop the flow of weapons to Hezbollah.Read .Annan also said that he had asked Syrian President Bashar Assad to use his nation's influence to help win the release of three Israeli soldiers held by Lebanese and Palestinian militants allied with Damascus.
According to Annan, Assad said at a meeting in Damascus that Syria will boost the number of its guards along the Lebanon-Syria border and establish joint patrols with the Lebanese army "where possible."
Israel has insisted that the international force be stationed along the Syrian frontier, although Assad has warned that such a presence would be considered "hostile."
Annan said Assad restated "Syria's objection to the presence of foreign forces along the Lebanese-Syrian borders."
The U.N. chief spoke with reporters at the Damascus airport before departing for Qatar. Assad made no public comments after the meeting.
As though this isn't bizarre enough, the media is actually promoting it "as if it were not a transparent, pathetic joke" (hat tip - Little Green Footballs)
Given Syria's complicity in the arming and support of Hezbollah and other terrorist groups, why should the international community even allow Syria to have a voice in the issue of arms shipments into Lebanon, much less assign any weight to their objections over the patroling of the borders? There is indeed no other way to describe this then to say that is a very transparent, sick, pathetic joke on the international community and particularly, Israel and Lebanon.
