Early Signs Washington And London May Be Waking Up To Iran's War Against Us

nuke4es.jpgMichael Ledeen writes at Faster Please that both Washington and London are grudgingly coming to accept the fact that Iran is waging war against us in Afghanistan and Iraq - something conservative bloggers have been screaming about for well over a year. According to Ladeen:

Until recently, Coughlin [reporter for the Telegraph] notes, "NATO commanders have appeared reluctant to even discuss the possibility that the Iranians might have their own agenda in upsetting coalition attempts to establish an effective government." And this reluctance was obviously peculiar to anyone who knew anything about Iran's real activities in the region. Commanders in Iraq and Afghanistan always knew that the Iranians had helped "orchestrate the roadside bombs that have killed and maimed so many soldiers," and are "actively supporting and providing equipment to Taliban-related groups" in Afghanistan. ...

On this subject, there does not seem to have been any disagreement between Rumsfeld, Rice, Tenet, Hadley, Hayden and Negroponte. None of them wanted to know about the murderous activities of the Iranians. ...

Why the refusal to see Iran for what it is? Coughlin explains it in a purely military context. He says that NATO troops have enough to do, fighting Taliban units in southern Afghanistan, and are just not prepared to extend their field of operations to the north and west. ...

... our leaders can no longer ignore the evidence.

Ilan Berman, vice president of the American Foreign Policy Council, wrote in his book Tehran Rising, that Iran's motivation is to be the dominant power in the Gulf and surrounding region, with influence extending to Central Asia, the Caucasus, and Turkey.

It wants to have a "new, more aggressive military profile" against the United States, the "foreign irritant" in the region against whom it is now arming with purchases from Russia and China with its greatly escalating petro-wealth.

The more sinister element is ideology and religious hatred.

In May 2004, Hassan Abbassi, a leading adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, announced:
"We have a strategy drawn up for the destruction of Anglo-Saxon civilization and for the uprooting of the Americans and the English. The global infidel front is a front against Allah and the Muslims, and we must make use of everything we have at hand to strike at this front by means of our suicide operations or by means of our missiles. There are 29 sensitive sites in the U.S. and in the West. We have already spied on these sites and we know how we are going to attack them."
As many have been saying, Abbassi's words ought to be taken seriously. After all, Ahmadinejad has been saying virtually the same thing almost every day.

It's already very late in the game to just now be in the early stages of realizing that Iran has been at war with the West since 1979, The time is overdue for military action to end Iran's nuclear threat.

Hat tip - Regime Change Iran
