An Epiphany For Nato On Iran
The Jerusalem Post reported on December 29 that NATO has begun taking a major interest in intelligence information about Iran's nuclear program amidst a "growing concern" that diplomacy will ultimately fail.
"Has begun" taking a major "interest" amidst a "growing concern" that diplomacy will ultimately fail? Certainly they are joking, else one is compelled to inquire as to just what the hell has taken them so long to come to their senses and on what basis did they ever believe that Iran's Islamist rulers would negotiate in good faith - either in the past or in the future.
Oh wait, we learn from the JP piece that the reason for the long delay in finally addressing the long-developing and growing threat from Iran and it's equally long-developing nuclear threat is the usual "certain members from Europe" that have so far been preventing even bringing up the "taboo" and "sensitive" issue of Iran.
How comforting that Nato has "at least begin to discuss the nuclear threat emanating from Iran" even without connection to the need for possible military action against the Islamic Republic! The only problem with their sudden awakening to the dangerous situation that their inaction has allowed to develop is that it may be too late. Let's not forget that our boy Mahmoud has made a connection between Jesus and the Imam Mahdi, believed by Shiites to have disappeared as a child in A.D. 941, and when the Mahdi returns, they contend, he will reign on earth for seven years before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world. Furthermore, an official state media website in Iran has posted a message heralding the coming of the Shiite messianic figure, Imam Mahdi, noting he could arrive with Jesus by the spring equinox:
... The Islamic Republic of Iran broadcasting website said in a program called "The World toward Illumination," that the Mahdi will form an army to defeat the enemies of Islam in a series of apocalyptic battles, in which the Mahdi will overcome his archvillain in Jerusalem. You can see why I'm so relieved that Nato "Has begun" taking a major "interest" on this issue! (For the dim witted, this is sarcasm, very appropriately placed,)
... Ahmadinejad's mystical pre-occupation with the coming of the Mahdi is raising concerns that a nuclear-armed Islamic Republic could trigger the kind of global conflagration he envisions will set the stage for the end of the world.
How does that old saying go about Nero fiddling while Rome burned? (Before some readers go nuts over my use of the myth here, I do realize that the Nero fiddling saying is actually based upon a myth)
