Invocation At Democratic National Committee Meeting By Pro-Hezbollah Anti- Imam Prays For End Of 'Occupation' And Dupes Dems

Hot Air has the video of an invocation by Husham Al-Husainy, Imam of the Karbalaa Islamic Education Center, a Shi'ite mosque in Dearborn, Michigan, at the Democratic National Committee's winter meeting.

Robert Spencer describes the surreal scene:

It is interesting to see the Democrats standing with heads bowed piously while the Imam Husham Al-Husainy prays, in veiled terms to be sure, for their conversion to Islam, and oh yes, for the destruction of Israel ("And help us to stop the war and violence, and oppression and occupation").
Spencer then tells how the Democrats were duped:
Here's a transcript:
... In the name of God the most merciful, the most compasionate. We thank you, God, to bless us among your creations. We thank you, God, to make us as a great nation. We thank you God, to send us your messages through our father Abraham and Moses and Jesus and Mohammed. Through you, God, we unite. So guide us to the right path. The path of the people you bless, not the path of the people you doom. Help us God to liberate and fill this earth with justice and peace and love and equality. And help us to stop the war and violence, and oppression and occupation. Ameen.
In mentioning "Abraham and Moses and Jesus and Mohammed" I expect that he sounded wonderfully generous and ecumenical to the assembled Democrats. But in fact, he was almost certainly invoking them in their capacity as Muslim prophets: it is mainstream Islam that all of these were prophets who taught Islam, and that the followers of Moses and Jesus corrupted their teachings to create Judaism and Christianity. So what seems to be a gesture of ecumenical generosity is actually a declaration of religious imperialism and the delegitimization of other religions.
It's incredible that an entire political party can be so damned naive as to consort and endorse those who seek to rule us and/or have us dead.

Jules Crittenden sees the scenario as yet another Dean scream, and notes that the imam could be Israel he's talking about. Could be us..

Debbie Schlussel (HT - Hot Air) provides more information on Al-Husainy, including his involvement in pro-Hezbollah and anti-Semitic activities:

... make no mistake. Imam Al-Husainy is no moderate. He was an advisor to the late Mohammed Bakr Al-Hakim, leader of the Iran-backed Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution. He's allied with the mainstream of Iraq's Shia Islam, which is terrorizing and driving out the few Christians left there.

This past summer, Al-Husainy seemed very happy leading almost-daily protests of thousands of Hezbollah supporters on the streets of Dearborn and Detroit, swarming with swastikas and anti-Semitic, anti-American signs.

Later, I watched him very much enjoy himself at an anti-Semitic rally of 3,000 Hezbollah supporters at Dearborn's Bint Jebail Cultural Center. He was among several who delivered hate-filled, anti-American rhetoric. I watched him cheer others on when they called for the hastened destruction of the Jews and when they said Americans are "diseased."

Just think. One of the people at this convention could end up being president of the United States and be responsible for protecting us. Of course the present administration hasn't faired much better. As Debbie Schlussel points out in her above linked to post, Hussainy was one of the imams shown in photographs around the world being hugged by President Bush after we invaded Iraq, and he was invited to the Pentagon to confer with top officials.

It's frightening that we're so perilously naive and politically correct as a society, which is most certainly to our detriment and could soon be toour peril.
