Missing Iranian General With Knowledge Of Iranian Nuke Secrets May Be In U.S.
If the story about missing Iranian general, Ali Reza Asgari, having defected to the United States and requested asylum here is true, then consider it a major problem for Iran. Asgari supposedly knows sensitive information about Iran's nuclear and military projects which could strongly counter Iran's claims of peaceful intentions for its nuclear program. Asgari, 63, served in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, and held a senior position in the Guards' branch in Lebanon from the 1990s. One of the Asgari's assignments was to strengthen ties with Hizballah and supervise the transfer of Iranian instructors to Hizballah training camps in Lebanon. After returning to Iran, Asgari was promoted to deputy defense minister.
One indication that Asgari has in fact defected is a statement by an Israeli analyst of Iranian affairs to Army Radio that he had information indicating that Asgari's family left Iran before his disappearance.
Nzherald.com.nz has it that if Asghari has indeed gone over to the West, or been abducted, he could be a major source of information on Iran's nuclear programme and a host of other security matters.
