Getting More Stupid On The Global Warming Bandwagon (Updated)

Al Gore's huge liberal con of Global warming is now a national security matter?

Let's just all ignore the fact that a group of scientists recently stated that the research behind Al Gore's film and in fact, the concept of greenhouse gases causing global warming, is "a sham".

Undeterred, liberal Democrats and gullible Republicans like the RINO Chuck Hagel, frothing at the mouth over political points with the left, are not only buying-in to the charade but are now making it a matter of national defense. Go figure!

Stupid idea, you say! I didn't think Congress could be so dumb; silly me!

Preston at Six Meat Buffet seems to agree:

... Only in our current socialism-infected, idiotic political climate could any of this even be talked about without resulting waves of laughter from everyone within earshot.

I realize that our "new" congress views the man-made global warming fantasy as a bigger national security threat than the islamic beheaders who are actually trying to kill us, but how about just a shred of common sense up there, Feds? I realize that would probably result in some type of seizure or stroke, due to the traumatic nature of such a shift, but give it a shot.

With Pelosi playing at being a diplomat, the government swallowing Gore's global warming swindle, having us cozy up to terrorists and singing kumbaya while Iran builds nuclear weapons to blow us to hell with, opening our border up to illegal Mexicans and granting amnesty to the illegal SOBs that are already here, and the fulfilling of the rest of the zany nutcase leftist agenda, I'm afraid we're all in for some rough times ahead with a Democratic-controlled Congress.

Update: An IBD editorial asks is this how unserious we've gotten about national security?:

... President Bush has had to beg the Democrat-led Congress to come up with more money to fight the war on terror. But he's been met with foot-dragging and outright resistance by Democrats, who larded the badly needed $100 billion war-funding bill with tens of billions of added pork spending and loony proposals calling for a timeline to withdraw troops.

... Some in Congress think global warming is so important it should be an issue of national defense, not science. It's a wrongheaded and dangerous idea, one that shows how crazy the debate has become.

... Unfortunately, the proposal to make global warming a matter of national security is bipartisan, with Sen. Chuck Hagel, a Nebraska Republican, joining Sen. Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat, as co-sponsors. If nothing else, this proves neither party has a monopoly on wisdom.

... Do Hagel and Durbin mean to say that a purely hypothetical threat to our planet due to our use of carbon-based energy sources is as serious as the threat posed by Islamofascism? It sure seems so.

... Hagel-Durbin would force the Pentagon and CIA to spend precious resources on hypothetical threats 100 years in the future -- threats such as melting icecaps and potentially nasty weather -- rather than fanatics who threaten to kill us with WMD.

... It's an old tactic. In 1633, Galileo was tried for heresy for proposing the Earth revolved around the sun. Today, what better way to squelch debate over global warming than to simply declare it a matter of national security? Then it's not dissent, but treason.

Interesting fact: NOAA reports that February was the 34th coldest February in 113 years.

And then there's the story about those trekkers...

... who ironically were hiking across the Arctic and the North Pole in order to get visual proof of global warming, being forced to cancel by "unexpectedly cold temperatures" which caused frostbite in the foot of one of the trekkers.

... In an article reporting on the termination of a trek across the North Pole, the trekkers display a lack of scientific understanding that is sadly typical of global warming alarmists.

The trekkers, who ironically were hiking across the Arctic and the North Pole in order to get visual proof of global warming, were forced to cancel by "unexpectedly cold temperatures" which caused frostbite in the foot of one of the trekkers.

The particular idiocy of these trekkers is represented in this fantastic quote from the article:

"They were experiencing temperatures that weren't expected with global warming," Atwood said. "But one of the things we see with global warming is unpredictability."

It's just so good, isn't it?
