'Operational Control' of Border by 2013 Is Disaster In Process

U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff said in an interview published on Thursday that Washington aims to have "operational control" of the border by 2013. This is suppose to be accomplished by building the 700-mile (1,120-km) wall along parts of the frontier and creating a "virtual fence" in desert areas with drones, sensors, cameras, satellite technology and vehicle barriers.

In saying that the U.S. intends to have 'operational control' by 2013, clearly this confirms that the U.S. does not presently have control of it's southern border and that illegal aliens and terrorists have virtual free access to cross into the U.S. any time they please. No "operational control" means "no control" and a security risk to the entire country.

In other words, our government (with the aid of both Democrats and Republicans) has failed miserably to protect us from terrorists and illegal aliens coming into the U.S. and has done so by both commission and omission, having purposefully chosen to prosecute border agents instead of illegal aliens, purposefully allowed our borders to be a sieve by failing to implement strong border protection, has purposefully looked the other way when employers hired illegal aliens, and has failed to deport illegals found in our country, even to the point of allowing "sanctuary cities" to be established.

When the next 9/11 occurs, and it will occur, we can all point to ourselves for allowing our politicians to put politics over our national security - starting with our current president.
