Dems Continue To Open Mouths, Insert Feet On Iraq, And Seek A Defeated America

In his piece a couple days ago at The Weekly Standard titled, The Democrat's Surge Problem, Bill Kristol wrote of the Dems being in the ridiculous position of being more anti-war now that we're winning than they were when we were losing:

IT WAS A REASONABLE position (though a mistaken one) to oppose the war in Iraq. It was a reasonable position (though a mistaken one) to oppose the surge of troops at the beginning of 2007, on the grounds that it seemed unlikely the surge could succeed, and that some kind of not-too-damaging-withdrawal was the only option.

But now the surge is succeeding. Any serious person has to be rethinking his position going forward in that light. No Democrat is doing any such rethinking, however. What Democrats are doing now is, in effect, denying evident success. And, by continuing to push for a withdrawal timetable, they are trying to prevent further success.

In his closing remarks Krystol points out what Joe Lieberman said last week, that the Democrats have emotionally and politically invested in a narrative of defeat and retreat in Iraq, and that the investment was both bad and dishonorable. Again, as I asked in my previous post, what is it about the liberal mind of the far Left that causes them to want their country to suffer defeat at the hand of the terrorists that attacked America?

Perhaps the answer lies in what Senator Joe Lieberman said last Thursday in a talk on "the politics of national security" that the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and USA Today ignored:

. . . [T]here is something profoundly wrong--something that should trouble all of us--when we have elected Democratic officials who seem more worried about how the Bush administration might respond to Iran's murder of our troops, than about the fact that Iran is murdering our troops.

There is likewise something profoundly wrong when we see candidates who are willing to pander to this politically paranoid, hyper-partisan sentiment in the Democratic base--even if it sends a message of weakness and division to the Iranian regime.

For me, this episode reinforces how far the Democratic Party of 2007 has strayed. . . . That is why I call myself an Independent Democrat today. It is because my foreign policy convictions are the convictions that have traditionally animated the Democratic Party--but they exist in me today independent of the current Democratic Party, which has largely repudiated them.

I hope that Democrats will one day again rediscover and re-embrace these principles. . . . But regardless of when or if that happens, those convictions will continue to be mine. And I will continue to fight to advance them along with like-minded Democrats and like-minded Republicans.

So, is that a near-term solution to the Dems' desire to see America defeated: "... I will continue to fight to advance them along with like-minded Democrats and like-minded Republicans" ?

As Lieberman suggests, until the time comes when the looney liberal far Left and the Democratic leadership that support them realize the harm they are causing their country, if they ever do, it's up to like-minded Republicans and Democrats to join together in assuring a strong America that survives the Islamofascist's onslaught of worldwide terrorism, and defeats its enemies.

You'll find Senator Lieberman's entire "must read" speech at his website.
