Yesterday the news aggregate site Iran va Jahan reprinted a Los Angeles Times article by Borzou Daragahi about the Byzantine workings of Iranian power and authority. The article cited examples of how the supreme leader's authority is sometimes trumped by competing economic interests, especially when he tries to promote the government's privatization program.
