Israel Attacking Hezbollah Banks In Lebanon
Fifteen hundred times in the past two weeks, an Israeli jet has taken off with a load of bombs. But the targets have not just been military, they include banks as well.
Israeli intelligence sources tell NBC News that among the targets hit in Lebanon are as many as a dozen financial institutions -- part of a previously secret campaign to destroy Hezbollah's financial infrastructure. Some banks were demolished, others deliberately damaged but not destroyed. "The message is for all the Lebanese banks," says Brig. Gen. Dani Arditi, advisor to the Israeli Prime Minister for Counterterrorism. "Assistance to Hezbollah is direct assistance to terrorist organizations."
For me, and I'm sure many others also, this comes as no surprise. I've been wondering for some time why the West hasn't been working harder to dry up Hezbollah funds and couldn't believe that the Israeli Mossad hadn't yet figured out where Hezbollah kept their money - but of course they have. It seems that, at least according to the NBC report, that Hezbollah is strapped for cash.
