Video: Steve Emerson Confronts Veiled MPAC Spokeswoman Edina Lekovic With Lies About Her Support Of Jihad
Terrorism expert Steven Emerson was on Larry Kudlow's CNBC show Wednesday with Edina Lekovic, spokeswoman for the LA-based Muslim Public Affairs Council, to talk about the Pew Research survey of Muslims in America. In the following clip Lekovic talks about all the ways MPAC is helping to fight extremism - but Emerson points out that in July 1999, while Lekovic was managing editor of the UCLA Muslim Students' Association's newspaper, al-Talib, she published an article titled "Jihad in America," containing this passage (hat tip - Charles at Little Green Footballs):
"When we hear someone refer to the great Mujahid (someone who struggles in Allah's cause) Osama bin Laden as a 'terrorist,' we should defend our brother and refer to him as a freedom fighter, someone who has forsaken wealth and power to fight in Allah's cause and speak out against oppressors. We take these stances only to please Allah."After being confronted with this fact by Emerson, Lekovic denied she was the editor of the newspaper.
Unfortunately for her, there is proof that she lied on the program. (PDF file.)
As Charles points out in his post at LGF, the cover of that edition horrifyingly shows what was being openly espoused at UCLA in the years leading up to September 11, 2001, and now these very same people are now promoting themselves and their organizations as "moderate."
Here, in this image on the editorial page Students' Association's newspaper, al-Talib, in which the article titled "Jihad in America," appears, clearly shows that Lekovic was managing editor of at the time.
As Emerson points out in his post at The CounterTerrorism Blog, the column was published almost a full year after the Embassy bombings in Kenya and Tanzania. At this point, the role of Bin-Laden in these bombings was widely and publicly known.
The Islamists have a name for what Edina Lekovic, spokeswoman for the LA-based Muslim Public Affairs Council, just did on national television. It's called al-taqiyya - lying for Islam.
The intention is to deceive unbelievers about Islam, for the explicit purpose of assuaging doubts and concerns about Islam, and encouraging conversion. Taqiyya underlies the whole gamut of Muslim propaganda which is disseminated in the West, from the claim that Islam promotes equal rights for women, to the attempts at inflating the perceived number of Muslims. All are designed to draw people to Islam, by hook or by crook. The example given before of the Durham imam who went so far as to claim that he would be compelled by his religion to prevent a vandal from destroying the property of a church or synagogue is a typical example of taqiyya. It was said in a public forum for the express purpose of giving an appearance to the Islamic religion which does not reflect reality. Certainly, as has been seen, the historical attitudes of Muslims toward churches and synagogues has NOT been to protect them from vandalism, just the opposite is in fact the case. But, the lie must be told in the public forum so as to present Islam in a positive and tolerant light which will appeal to Westerners, which will cause them to believe that the image of Islam as an intolerant and violent religion are just myths created by Islam's enemies to defame the True Faith.More here ...
