Ahmadinejad calls Bush a coward
The 9/11 Bush, is he back? Listening to President George W. Bush's speech today in Salt Lake City, I was reminded of the President Bush I saw on September 11, 2001. Let's hope so for several reasons, like Iran, 'Mahmoud Ahmadinejad calls President Bush coward for refusing TV debate'. The Iranian Embassy in Azerbaijan told the APA President Ahmadinejad commenting on his American counterpart's refusing his call for a live television debate. "We offered the persons claiming to support free and transparent release of news to discuss global issues with us and let the world listen to us and then... ... morePosted at 4:36 PM
The Contents of the IAEA Report on Iran's Nuclear Program
AKI and Reuters provide a bit more of what was the in the IAEA report to the United Nations Security Council this morning, including that Iran has no intention of ever stopping its nuclear program. It's not the nuclear program I object to, but rather Iran's pursuit for nuclear weapons, and that concern has hardly been appeased. Among the findings as leaked to the press include: Iran restarted uranium enrichment days prior to the UNSC deadline IAEA inspectors found "highly enriched uranium" in a container at the Karaj Waste Storage Facility in mid-August. Highly enriched uranium is used in making... ... morePosted at 3:22 PM
Journalist's Brother Killed in Waziristan
Truly sad news out of Waziristan as the mufsidun continue to wage their war on opposing voices. The borther of journalist Dilawar Khan Wazir was taken hostage and killed on his way to school reaching the young age of 14. He was found lying unconscious and wounded near the Karikot area on Wednesday by locals who took him to the civil hospital where he eventually died. Doctors said the boy died of torture. They said Taimoor had received severe injuries on his neck. Eight months ago, suspected militants had planted a bomb outside Wazir's home in Waziristan, forcing him to... ... morePosted at 2:57 PM
List of Proposed Sanctions Upon Iran
According to the New York Times, the United States has unveiled a list of sanctions they will call for the UNSC to impose upon Iran following Iran's refusal to stop enriching uranium on the August 31 deadline. The sanctions are, I believe, a good start if they can be agreed upon and if they can be enacted better than sanctions upon other nations. The proposed sanctions are as follows: Embargo on the sale of nuclear-related equipment and materials to Iran Restriction of travel for Iranian leaders direcly involved in Iran's nuclear program Freeze the nation's foreign assets In addition, the... ... morePosted at 2:53 PM

Thoughts on Cuba
While we all anxiously wait for Fidel to die, I thought I'd supply a few different thoughts about Cuba. Specifically, immigration policy. I recently read "The Case for Democracy" by Natan Sharansky, which outlines one of the hidden reasons why the Soviet Union fell. That reason was an allowance by the Soviet government for Jewish dissidents to emigrate to other countries (such as Israel). The result was that the ensuing mass emigration allowed many to overcome the fear of the government, and, in turn, encouraged dissenting speech which weakened the country. In light of this, consider the case of Cuba.... ... morePosted at 9:17 AM

Islam, conquering Americans from within?
I was told by a Muslim this week, that I needed to "get over September 11". Get over it he said. I suppose he is going to 'get over' his hatred for Israel, or get over his drone-like love of the Palestinians? Right! September 11 was a defining moment for the United States but it also accomplished exactly what Muslims wanted it to accomplish. Since 9/11 the acceptance of Islam, the teaching of Islam, the tolerance for Islam has all increased in the United States. Kurdish Media in this article says, "Today the West is being the victim of their... ... morePosted at 12:34 PM
Iran's Khamenei: It Is The Entire Muslim Community's Duty To Defend Hezbollah
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's supreme leader, is calling for the ummah to rally to the defence of Hezbollah in its war against Israel: "Today it is the entire Muslim community's duty to defend Hezbollah," Khamenei told a meeting to mark the anniversary of the birth of the Shiites' first Imam, Ali. Iran helped to create and arm Hezbollah in 1982 in response to Israel's invasion of Lebanon, and Tehran stands accused by the United States and Israel of fomenting chaos in the region by channelling weapons to the guerrillas, AFP stated. Iran denies the allegation, saying it provides only moral... ... morePosted at 11:43 AM

Nasrallah's Offer, Israel's Answer - A Disturbing Scenario
In the introduction we read: "Translated from the Hebrew article that appeared in the Israeli Maariv daily newspaper on the 1st of Av 5766 -- July 26, 06. Although the following imaginary scenario was written two weeks ago, it is becoming disturbingly more realistic everyday:[...] Ahmadinejad has already sent the children of the Islamic revolution to blow up mine fields for him with the keys to the Garden of Eden dangling from their necks. Their mothers fought over who will send her son first. For Ahmadinejad, ten destroyed Iranian cities in exchange for the status of the modern day Salah-a-Din... ... morePosted at 2:55 AM

On the Israel-Hez War and the Democratic Peace
Angie just posted this question: Hi Professor Rummel. I've read your stuff in the past and was just wondering if you had thought about posting something that counters the recent media criticism that I've seen where someone mentioned that Israel and Lebanon are both democratic. I forgot the reporter, but it seems like someone was questioning the validity of the proposition by yourself and President Bush (I have read that he has read Natan Sharansky's book on democracy) that greater democracy is a solution to global violence. Will you counter that question at all? I have. My post on this... ... morePosted at 11:19 AM

Lebanese PM: IDF Strike Kills 40 Civilians In Houla - Wait Correct That!
Fox News reported that the Lebanese PM Fuad Siniora "tearfully" reported in a news conference that that IDF had killed 40 people in the town of Houla, and that he was a little off the mark - he over stated the actual death count by 39 - only 1 person had been killed. Albawaba reported the original number reported by Siniora, and the correction: "Meanwhile, the Lebanese prime minister said one person was killed in an Israeli air raid Monday in the southern border village of Houla, lowering the death toll from 40. Prime Minister Fuad Saniora said at a... ... morePosted at 12:38 PM

Comments On Democracy In The Middle East From A Non-Expert
You cannot have a democracy with an armed militia operating within your country. This is an automatic no-go and a clear signal that no real democracy exists. Look at Iraq, the Palestinians, and Lebanon.

A Report On Democracy in the Middle East
The UN Development Programme, Regional Bureau for Arab States has published The Arab Human Development Report 2004: Towards Freedom in the Arab World. Although there are the usual Arab biases regarding Israel and the United States and President Bush, the report is nonetheless valuable for its observations and information on the advance of democracy in the Middle East, and the problems that beset it. Here is a review by Frank Tachau (Professor of Political Science at the University of Illinois at Chicago) published on the H-Democracy List. (Continued here... ... morePosted at 3:45 PM
Who Are The Key Players In The Middle East Saga?
Hashmonean has a great breakdown, with images, on the key players behind the ongoing war in Lebanon. On the Israel side, he has descriptions for Ehud 'the Dude' Olmert, Amir 'The Emeer' Peretz , Benjamin 'Never Say Never..' Netanyahu, Tzipi 'Lady' Livni, and Shaul 'Magic' Mofaz. There's descriptions for the Palestinians and Hamas key players - Mahmoud 'No Can Du' Abbas / Mazen, and Khaled 'Keep Moving' Mashal, and he even has a description for the loudest mouth in the Arab World - Mahmoud 'Assmad' Ahmadinejad. Israel: Against All Odds
Tiny Israel is an amazing country, surrounded by hostile neighbors with only 10% of the land area and one Israeli per 60 Arabs and Iranians, and with far fewer resources than the armies that are hell bent on its demise. For an excellent perspective on just how great the odds are against Isreal surviving, much less consistantly defeating its Arab neighbors in battle (including Hezbollah), click on over to MiddleEastInfo.org, turn your speakers up, and watch the Flash introduction. Prepare to be amazed. Originally posted at Hyscience... ... morePosted at 8:03 PM
Fox: IDF Attacking Bekaa Valley
Fox News is reporting that the IAF has "lit up the sky" with flares and jets over the Bekaa Valley, the power base of Hezbollah. I've been wondering when a big push into the Bekaa Valley (once called the most heavily defended air corridor on earth) would occur - it has seemed all too important that Israel would encircle southern Lebanon along the Litani river and move into the Bekaa Valley and north along the coast. The Bekaa Valley has for years been Hezbollah's own haven for the manufacture of illicit drugs and a training ground for its fanatical terrorists.... ... morePosted at 5:00 PM

Has the world turned upside down?
Debbie at Right Truth asks if the world lost it's mind and says that everything is turned upside down: The innocent are now the guilty. The attacked are now called the aggressors. The peace-loving countries are called killers, while killers are called victims? The French praise the Iranians? Oh, wait. That last one sounds like business as usual for the French. Iran's state controlled news entity - Islamic Republic News Agency - is reporting that the French Foreign Minister - Douste-Blazy - has called Iran "crucial to the stability of the Middle East."
